WKE brought together over 100 participants to collaborate, innovate, and exchange knowledge, reinforcing a collective commitment to building a Water-SmartSociety and advancing the WaterResilienceStrategy across all corners of Europe.
Dr. Plakas had the opportunity to introduce the CORNERSTONE project to the Expert Group on Water Efficiency: Reuse & Circularity. This expert group is further evolving strategies and plans that go beyond water recovery, helping industries integrate sustainable solutions that contribute to the EU Green Deal and a circular economy.
Furthermore, the Expert Group was also involved with the public launch of the Water Europe Community of Practice (CoP) on Water-Smart Industry. It was agreed that the industrial sector has a tremendous role to play, and that water managed differently and collaboratively, including using circular economy approaches, can be an enormously powerful enabler of economic growth, regional development, sustainable and renewable energy systems, whilst at the same time mitigating climate change, supporting sustainable food production, and protecting the environment, public health, and biodiversity.
